I have good news and bad news… The bad news is that Deep Freeze 2008 is over and we had to say goodbye.  The good news is that there are only 364 days left until Deep Freeze 2009!!!!!  So since Elizabeth and Jacob started a countdown in school until this year’s Deep Freeze… will they start a new one for next year’s Deep Freeze?!!?!?!

I cannot begin to explain how much fun the leaders had with all of you and we cannot wait to do it again.  Keep your eyes on your email for our next upcoming event in two weeks and seriously consider joining us each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM for our Bible study in the Teen room above the church office.  Lets face it, two weeks is too long to wait before seeing all of us again!

                                                              Peace,

Spring is finally here and with that comes the excitement of how the Lord is living and moving in the youth group at MCC!  Since the retreat, we have had some exciting opportunities to look more in-depth at the legacies we are leaving behind and how God wants to be a big part of that.

Along with the beautiful Spring weather we are beginning to see is the opportunity to take our games outside.  Back in March, we had a blast competing in our first ever ‘Click and Grab’ photo scavenger hunt!  Teams of teens (led by adults) left our parking lot at approximately 7:15 PM and ventured out into the surrounding towns in search of a whole slew of items to take pictures of or gather to build up their teams’ score.  The highlight of the evening for me was hearing the stories of how teams talked ice cream attendants into pouring sprinkles over their heads while singing, “I feel pretty”.

On April 11th, we were given an opportunity to support the efforts of a local private Christian school (Covenant Christian Academy) by attending their fundraiser at CoCo Key!  An amazing time was had by all at this fun water park!!  I am quite proud of the fact that I had an opportunity to beat Pastor Larry in best-of-three race down the waterslides.  Although he may remember this experience differently, I am confident that I would have received the trophy had one been given out for first place!

Finally, as you look forward to what is coming up for the youth group, mark your calendar off on May 2nd as being a special evening.  This night, your fearless leaders (Susan, Dan, and Larry) will be putting together a surprise night that you will not want to miss.  It promises to be a blast and I can’t wait to see what they will have us doing!

On another note, we kicked off a new Bible study on Sunday mornings on February 10th and if you are a teen, we would love to have you join us!  What is one of the first things that every growing Christian should learn?  How about what it means to follow Christ?  As Jesus invited his first disciples to follow him, so he has extended that invitation to us.  “Come and follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).  The Bible study has begun and we are now learning what it means to be a Jesus Christ follower 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  If you are a parent of a teen, consider presenting this Sunday morning option to them.  The youth group leadership team’s prayer is that it will transform your teen’s life!  If you are a teen, I cannot think of a good reason why you shouldn’t be there. Please consider coming to ‘Waking up with Dan’ on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM and growing with us.  We meet in the Teen Room above the church office.

Additionally, we meet each Sunday morning at 9:00 AM in the teen room above the church office for a morning Bible study before the 10:00 AM worship service.   If you would like more information about how you or your student can get involved, contact any of the leaders, Dan and Tara Van Horne,  Dan and Susan Hammerle, or Larry Schell.
